Our Scholarship Program

The Pilot

One of the realities confronting the United States is the major imbalance in educational equality. The vast majority of minority students experience a variety of personal, environmental, and institutional barriers that result in limited or no access to a college education.

It is then no surprise that minority student post secondary graduation rates are dismal, with disproportionate levels of ineffective remediation, lack of academic support, and financial barriers negatively affecting their academic achievement.

The Thomas Academy was articulated in an effort to address these barriers. In 2011, a pilot program was created and welcomed the inaugural class of The Thomas Academy (then called The Thomas School).

This pilot program was a rousing success, with all eleven of The Thomas Academy’s participants having been admitted to four-year colleges and their respective basketball programs.

Moving Forward From the Pilot to Achieve our Vision

  • Ben Thomas CEO and founder has self-funded The Thomas Academy through the pilot program. The organization’s success has created the impetus to significantly expand and grow the program and its reach. To that end, The Thomas Academy is in the process of expansion, with a focus on recruitment, outreach, and fund development efforts. This will be the first year the Academy will be offering SAT/ACT Prep Courses.

Our vision is broad, aggressive and achievable.
